  14.    I have 2 problems when using the emplants scsi on the ami side of my
  15. A4000/040, OS31. One is with a 5.25in ext Syq 88 and the other with a 2x NEC
  16. ext cdrom which are chained together, the Syq properly terminated.

  18.    Regrading the Syq. Can someone tell me what max-xfer & mask value settings
  19. are appropriate to use? I could be preparing the carts wrong. Heres what I do
  20. and the problem that occurs.

  22.    The emplant scsi controller has the latest chip and '.device' software. 1st
  23. I use HDToolBox and define a new type for the cart, then I low-lev format, then
  24. I go to partition and make one 88 meg partition and set the filesystem for
  25. DC-FFS. I then save changes and exit HDToolBox.

  27.    Now i use scsimounter to mount the drive, then I tried to format the disk
  28. when the icon appeared on the workbench, but as it got 1/2 way through, it quit
  29. saying it couldn't format one of the cylinders. I tried twice.

  31.    Well the cart was fine when the Syq was on a PC (and it was previously an
  32. formatted Amiga anyways) so I know its good. SO I brought it to my frineds 3000
  33. OS31 hook up the Syq there, use HDToolBox there to prep it, then format it there
  34. and it formats fine. So I can now mount it on my 4000 with scsimounter and use
  35. it, but, sometimes on reads or writes of big files, it 'freezes' the computer
  36. momentarily until its done with the packet, but yesterday, when I had 3 DCC
  37. sends going from the Syq it 'froze' the computer and wouldn't release till I
  38. finally hit the eject button on the drive. I put the disk back in and the xfer
  39. continued and only one file got corrupted needless to say. I believe that its a
  40. problem of simply tweaking the mask/xfer values, but since I dont have any
  41. manuals for the drive, I don't know its specs.

  43.    The values that are currently in there now are 0x0fffffe=Mask,
  44. 0xffffff=Max-xfer file system block-size=512 and  buffers=30 as set and
  45. reported by HDToolBox. There are other values like stacksize, priority,
  46. prealloc, interleave and buffermemtype which I dont really know how they work.
  47. Their values are 600, 10, 0, 0 and 0 respectively as reported by a 'GenML'
  48. created mountlist.

  50.    If anyone has any experience or a mountlist for a similar setup and isn't
  51. having any problems, please respond here or via email.

  53.    The 2nd question is more OS related. From what i understand, OS31 supports
  54. CD-ROMS natively through the CD0 dosdriver, but what I want to know is does
  55. that include a CD-ROM hooked up via the emplants scsi port, or only CD-ROMS
  56. hooked up through the built in scsi.device.

  58.    I edited the dosdriver and put in empscsi.device and the unit # of the
  59. CD-ROM but it won't mount a cover CD I got from Amiga Format. When I double
  60. click the dosdriver and try to cd to CD0: i get an error saying NDOS. Also,
  61. using scsimounter to try and mount the CD gives me an error  'invalid rigid
  62. disk block'.

  64.    I heard some stuff about there being a bug in v40.70 of OS31 with respect to
  65. CD-ROMS, but don't know the facts about this.
